a weekend Escape: a reflection

An abbreviated diary of a recent guest's' weekend experience at The DeBruce is below… just a ‘taste’ of what an experience at The DeBruce can be. We hope you will join us!

Friday

2:00pm – We arrived at The DeBruce after a scenic drive along the Willowemoc. Although we were early, the team greeted us warmly, offering warm cookies and a welcome drink, which set the tone for our weekend. After a quick tour of the property, we settled into our room, ready to unwind and stretch our legs.
4:00pm – We took a short walk around the expansive grounds, but as dusk fell, we decided to return tomorrow for a longer hike. A nap was calling before cocktail hour and the evening festivities began.
6:00pm –Rested and refreshed, we headed down to the Club Room, where we met a lovely couple who recently moved to the area. They shared some great tips on things to do in the area before we left town.
7:00pm We sat down for The DeBruce’s weekly Family Meal, served only on Friday evenings. It was a chance to break bread and share stories with fellow guests at this small 12-room inn - like being part of an exclusive club, complete with a secret handshake.
10:00pm – After a lively dinner (and a nightcap), we made our way upstairs, where the comfort of our bed awaited.

Saturday

9:00am – We woke slowly and leisurely before heading downstairs for an incredible breakfast. We were fueled and ready for our hike!
10:00am – Down the stairs to the Tackle Room, we discovered our locker stocked with goodies for our hike - trail mix, water, binoculars, and maps.
1:00pm – Five miles and a few hours later, we were back in our room, refreshed and ready to explore Livingston Manor.
5:00pm – Our afternoon in town was fantastic— we stocked up on gifts and treats and were amazed by how many cute stores and eateries lined Main Street. With plenty of goodies in hand, it was time to head back for the highlight of the weekend: The DeBruce’s famed tasting menu.
7:00pm – In The DeBruce’s floating jewel box dining room, the culinary team led us on an unforgettable journey through the streams, valleys, and mountains with each beautifully crafted dish. The tasting menu was why we came and it did not disappoint!
9:00pm – Back in the Club Room, we rehashed every dish with our new friends, enjoyed a fun round of shuffleboard, s’mores by the bonfire, and good conversation before calling it a night.

Sunday

9:00am – During another yummy breakfast, we mapped out the rest of our day and swapped contact information with the couple across the hall. Then it was off to the farmer’s market and to follow the insider advice from our new friends. While the weekend was coming to a close, we felt so relaxed, so happy and ready to plan our trip back! With no linens to strip or dishes to do, we left feeling completely cared for—especially when the team sent us off with fresh eggs from down the road and granola to take home.

DeBruce - we will be back and can’t wait to break bread with you again soon!
